Richard Godwin: The future of the internet looks even more grim

Last year, Microsoft ran an experiment in the pursuit of "conversational understanding". The company unveiled an artificial intelligence (AI) named Tay, designed to engage in "casual and playful" exchanges with 16- to 24-year-old Americans on Twitter.
