GIITTV: PREVIEW: Ritual Union festival, Oxford, 2017

The quality festival line-ups this year have been coming thick and fast, and one glance at October’s Ritual Union roster confirms that the UK just keeps getting better and better at this kind of thing.

Set across a handful of venues on Oxford’s Cowley Road, namely the O2 Academies 1 & 2, The Truck Store, The Bullingdon and The Library, this inaugural edition of the festival counts Worcester indie quartet Peace amongst its headliners, which also include trailblazing Russians Pinkshinyultrablast. Their celestial resonance sure to fill everyone’s hearts with a warm, fuzzy glow, while perhaps best of all, Brighton’s finest thousand yard floor-starers, Toy, complete the top billing trio.

But that’s not it, of course, as there is a veritable treasure trove of talent from which to choose. Personal ‘must see’ artists would include Bahrain’s Flamingods, who (to me at least) sometimes sound like Lou Reed took a load of drugs with Belle & Sebastian and then made a record, then there’s the joyous beach party atmosphere of Virginia’s Magique, and the gnarly socio-political Strokes-cum-Libertines rock of Dead Pretties.

Even if THAT isn’t enough for you (and to be frank, if it isn’t, you’re clearly an awkward bugger), you still have the likes of Traams, Low Island and Van Zeller to whet your appetite, amongst others. All this and there is still a whole host of names to be added to what is already looking like a magnificent way to spend your Saturday.

See above for the full list of acts announced so far.
