The VPME Track Of The Day – Pillow Queens – Rats

Calm Girls is the debut Ep from Dublin’s queer, all girl, indie rock group, Pillow Queens . The EP was self-released last year but now gets the 7″ treatment via Specialist Subject.

Today’s track of the day EP opener ‘Rats’ demonstrates the band’s ability to fashion melodic fuzzed up indie pop and proves that the DIY ethos is no barrier to creating great music.  The title ‘Calm Girls’ is an ironic nod to the collectives somewhat anxious nature indeed they caution that the EP covers themes such as despair, distrust and crisis of self.  So it’s not Steps then.  The EP closes with ‘Wonderboys’ which the band describe as “an attempt to put into musical form the feeling you get when your eyes roll back into your head when faced with toxic masculinity”.
