GIITTV: Track Of The Day #1045: Jon Murry – Wrong Man [VIDEO PREMIERE]

Mississippi-born songwriter John Murry releases his new album A Short History of Decay  on the 14th of July. We have the premiere for the evocative song ‘Wrong Man’ is a hauntingly stripped back cut watch it above. Replete with tumbling acoustic guitars and drip with Murry’s distinctive timbre and laced with a crumbling regret that hints at southern folklore and rustles with the ghosts of Mark Lanegan and latter-period Johnny Cash.

Like a scene from a Cohen brothers film, this stark black and white visual accompaniment was filmed by Colm Hogan last November in freezing temperatures in County Mayo near the County Galway border, in an area known locally as Joyce Country where the infamous (and infamously “forgotten”) Maamtrasna Murders occurred a century and a half ago.  The version of ‘Wrong Man’ heard was recorded for the video by Bob Brennan, live at John’s home in Kilkenny and was mixed and mastered by Rick Vargas in California.

John Murry has announced a string of July and September UK dates.
