GIITTV: Track Of The Day #1056: Warm Digits (feat Sarah Cracknell) – Growth Of Raindrops

Warm Digits finally make a welcome reappearance although judging from their press release they are far from happy campers. Notable for their previous metronomic post-Krautrock output, they have always come across as dark and moody, mirroring a grey November afternoon in their own downtown Newcastle. August 11th sees the release of Wireless World which finds the lads in a typical sombre mood stating, “our experience of the world and our states of mind are shaped and thrilled by unimaginably exciting leaps in technology, and yet that world will only last for a few moments as we fail to find a way to act collectively on rising temperatures, the failures of democracy and the unstoppable hunger for exploitation of the ground under our feet. This record is our attempt to make music from our experience of this present that teeters between celebration and devastation.”

However, if you are searching for some light to breach the tenebrosity then who you gonna call? Well, Sarah Cracknell, naturally.

‘Growth Of Raindrops’ is two tracks for the price of one, Cracknell breathing warmth and vivacity to light up our Summer as she has done for more than 20 years whilst the Digits plough their own, darker furrow underneath which almost tips over into The Jesus & Mary Chain‘s ‘Never Understand’ at one juncture. It’s a beguiling alliance of styles and works far better than your average Hadron Collider.

Warm Digits will be heading your way soon, catch them before the world ends:
